Eagles Pick: There’s been a fear expressed on talk radio this week, mostly by fans, not analysts, that because the Redskins manhandled the Jacksonville Jaguars with their backup quarterback just one week after Nick Foles played awful against them, that the Redskins are a better team than the Eagles. Well, that’s not really how the NFL works. Jacksonville may have just had a worse game than they did in Week 1. Plus, can Foles play that poorly again? We can debunk the thinking in many different ways, but the bottom line is I do not think it is a predictor to an Eagles loss. One thing that concerns me with the Redskins is their pass rush against a struggling Nick Foles, but I think over a 60 minute game, the Eagles will once again prevail victorious.
Pick: Eagles, ATS: Redskins +6.5
NFL Against the Spread Pick: Favorites tend to stick out to me more than underdogs, and I think Carolina will not only beat the Steelers, but will do so by at least a touchdown. Pittsburgh’s offense this year looks inconsistent and dysfunctional at times. Carolina has a great defense, and playing at home in prime time, I think they take care of business, laying only a field goal.
Pick: Panthers -3
NCAA Against the Spread Pick: After a push last week with the favorite Nittany Lions, I’m going to go with a dog this week. Hawaii is getting eight points in Colorado, and they should come closer than that. 91% of the public is taking Colorado, and the line has actually gone up since. I expect Hawaii, who hung in with Washington, to at least keep this game close.
Pick: Hawaii +8
Suicide Pool Pick: This one is a no-brainer. Pick against a terrible team with a team that otherwise has a rather challenging schedule. I don’t see any scenario Bill Belichick and Tom Brady lose to the Oakland Raiders at home.
Pick: New England
NFL Three-Team Tease:
- Saints pk
- Titans +17
- Raiders/Patriots Under 57
Fantasy/Fan Duel Star of the Week: Last week was very reassuring for any Stevan Ridley owners. Getting 25 carries, it was made clear that he is the Patriots’ top option to carry the ball. I expect the Patriots to be in control for much of the game against the Raiders, and so they likely will look to run clock by running the ball—something they did just last week with Ridley as well.
Start him: Stevan Ridley
Picks Record last week: 3-1-1, Season: 6-3-1
