Each week Mike Angelina will share his picks on the Eagles, a game against the spread in both NFL and NCAA, a Suicide Pool Pick, a 3-team tease, as well as a fantasy player to make sure you start. Follow Mike on Twitter @MikeAngelina
Eagles Pick: This is not quite a must-win spot for the Eagles, but it kind of feels like one. Speaking of spots, I think this is a good spot for the Eagles. Dallas is coming off a bit of an emotional high, having won in the dramatic fashion they did in their opener. They are also banged up, both defensively and offensively—with the offense missing arguably the best player on the team in Dez Bryant. I like the Eagles on their turf to bounce back, not considerably, but enough to handle Dallas. I also look at the fact Dallas was only able to record one sack against a poor Giants line as encouragement for Sam Bradford to move the ball. I don’t think it’s an easy game, in fact quite the opposite. I think the Eagles seal the game with a late score in the fourth quarter.
Pick: Eagles, ATS: Cowboys +5
NFL Against the Spread Pick: I think the game in Buffalo last weekend was more about the Bills’ success than it was the Colts struggling. I fully expect Andrew Luck and Indianapolis to bounce back and enjoy their home turf. I think the Jets overachieved last week against the Browns, having been boosted by the fact that their starting QB, Josh McCown, was injured and left early. I think Indy takes care of business in primetime Monday.
Pick: Colts -7
NCAA Against the Spread Pick: In an early Pac-12 matchup, I think the Trojans of Southern Cal handle the Cardinal quite easily. Playing at home, USC enters the game fresh off two very impressive victories. Cody Kessler looks like an early Heisman candidate, throwing completions for a rate at nearly 80% and he has yet to throw a pick alongside his 7 TD passes. Sticking with the Pac-12 after last week’s successful Arizona pick, I’ll lay the points with the Trojans.
Pick: USC -9.5
NFL Three-Team Tease:
- Raiders +16.5
- Dolphins +4.5
- Patriots +8
Fantasy/Fan Duel Star of the Week: Doug Martin was having a pretty solid game for Tampa before the Buccaneers, rightfully so, abandoned the run game against the Titans as they were getting blown out. Although an underdog this week against New Orleans, I would expect the Bucs to go back to him and try to establish a running game again. In his last 3 games against the Saints, The “Mussel Hamster” has eclipsed 100 yards in those games twice. Against the Cardinals, the Saints gave up nearly 6 yards/carry so they’re not the greatest at stopping the run.
Start him: Doug Martin
Last Week: 3-1, Season: 3-1
